- Game rules: Marriage, also called Briscola, is a card - drawing game that originated in Italy or Spain. One player shuffles the cards, gives them to the opponent to cut, and then deals 5 cards to each player. He places the deck in the middle, turns over the 11th card, and this card determines the trump suit. If a player has a 7 of the trump suit in his hand, as long as there are cards left in the deck, he can exchange this 7 with the trump (the turned - over card).
The non - dealing player plays a card from his hand first and then draws a card from the deck to start the game. The other player then plays a card next to the first card and then draws a new card:
1) He can play a card of the required suit, with the ranks from lowest to highest being: 7 - 8 - 9 - Jack - Queen - King - 10 - Ace.
2) He can play a card of the trump suit, and cards of the trump suit are higher than cards of other suits.
3) If there are cards left in the deck, he can, instead of responding with the required suit, play a card of his choice, even if he has a higher - ranked card of the required suit or a higher - ranked trump in his hand.
The player who wins the card - drawing round starts the next round.
When there are no cards left in the deck - the last card drawn is the initially turned - over trump, which might have been exchanged with the 7 of the trump suit - the player, if possible, must play the required suit, cover (play a trump), or over - cover (if the required suit is the trump suit) until all the cards in his hand are played.
The players calculate their scores, and the player with the most points wins the game. The score calculation takes into account the individual value of the cards and the "marriages" held by the player in the won card - drawing rounds.
Card values:
7, 8, and 9: 0 points
Jack: 2 points
Queen: 3 points
King: 4 points
10: 10 points
Ace: 11 points
Marriage (King and Queen of the same suit): 20 points
Super Marriage (King, Queen, and Jack of the same suit): 30 points
Trump Marriage (King and Queen of the trump suit): 40 points
Super Trump Marriage (King, Queen, and Jack of the trump suit): 50 points
Last round: 10 points
For example, if a player holds a King and a Queen of the same suit (non - trump suit) in a won card - drawing round, in addition to the 7 points from this royal pair, an extra 20 points are counted. Note that the player who wins the last round gets an extra 10 points.
